Fortune's Landing Safety Rules and Regulations
Safety is the primary concern for everyone involved in the game. If people are not playing safely then everyone is going to have a bad time. There are several rules in place to help ensure safety for everyone involved in the game. There are safety marshalls in the game that will watch for violations of these rules. The first violation in a given combat will result in a verbal warning, second violation in a given combat will result in the warned individual being removed from that combat, third violation in an event will result in the individual being banned from combat for the rest of the event, the fouth violation will result in the individual being banned from participating in Raging Gargoyle Games events from that point on. We really do not want things to ever go that far, so be safe and thoughtful of other people, folks.
1) Thou shalt not swing more than 90° or less than 45°.
Following this rule will ensure that your swing is strong enough to be felt, without being so strong that it hurts. You should at no time bring your arm back more than 90° during a swing. If you are fighting multiple opponents that are flanking there should be a momentary pause between attacks on opposite sides.
2) Thou shalt not aim for the head.
The head, neck, hands, and feet are illegal targets. Any blows landing on these areas should be ignored for the purposes of damage and immediately apologized for. The groin is a legal hit location, but in the interest of Good Sportsmanship, should not be actively aimed at. The victim of a strike in the head, neck, hands, feet, or groin should feel free to call a "hold" if necessary to recover from the blow.
3) Thou shalt not turtle or in other ways present only illegal targets during combat.
Not only is it poor sportsmanship to try to circumnavigate the rules like this, but it is also a severe safety hazard. "Turtleing" is the practice of using a shield or other obstruction to cover all legal targets on your person, while also allowing you to continue to attack. This is a safety concern as people may inadvertantly strike your head in attempting to get around your shield.
4) Thou shalt respect the call of "Medic".
If a physical injury occurs that may require the skills of a trained professional, a sprained ankle, snake bite, broken bone, etc. Any and all people who are aware of the injury should immediately call "MEDIC". All action in the area stops and everyone not directly involved in the injury should drop to one knee. This is so that the game administrators and medical personnel can find the injured person as quickly as possible. A "MEDIC" call counts as a hold and all rules pertaining to holds should be followed.
5) Thou shalt respect the call of "Hold".
If you at any time hear the phrase "Hold", you are to immediately stop whatever action you are doing and drop to one knee. The game is considered paused while a hold is occuring, and as such you should not look around you while in a hold. A hold will only be called for a potentially dangerous situation to be resolved or important game description information to be revealed.
6) Thou shalt consider your surroundings before commiting to action.
Actions that are generally safe may not be in certain situations. Please take into account your surroundings before you do something extreme, i.e. charging across a bridge in the dark, or wandering around the deep woods barefoot.
7) Thou shalt use common sense in your dealings with mundanes.
Even though we do what we can to prevent the intrusion of mundanes into the game, sometimes they will just wander onto the site and start looking around. If you run into people who are obviously NOT playing the game, please use common sense in your interactions with them. It has been our experience that it is often best just to ignore them entirely.
8) Thou shalt not bring real weapons to an event.
Other than a small folding pocket knife, no other non-padded weapons are allowed at an event. This prohibition applies to all weapons (guns, swords, daggers, glaives, maces, shurikens, arrows, etc). There is absolutely no purpose outside of decoration in bringing these weapons to an event, and as things can get bumped around during a fight and damage could be done to a person or the facilities, neither of which is a good thing.
9) Thou shalt have a Safety Marshall approve your weapons before every event.
Before you are allowed to use boffers in the game those boffers must pass a safety inspection conducted by a Safety Marshall. All approved weapons will receive a green sticker that should be stuck to the item tag for that weapon. It is considered a safety violation to use a weapon in combat that does not have a current green sticker.
10) Thou shalt not use a Bow or Crossbow without a current Bow Certification.
Before you are allowed to use a Bow or Crossbow in play, you must pass a Bow Certification test. These tests may be done at any time before or after an event with the help of a Safety Marshall. Once you pass your Bow Certification it will be noted in your character record, and you will be certified to use a bow for the next year.
