A listing of some of the terms you may encounter in the Fortune's Landing system.
Those terms that originate in the CI Core Rules are followed with a (CI). Fortune's Landing specific terms are not denoted.

Alchemy (CI) - A school of magic that draws power from the base elements of existance. Alchemists of a given element are almost always of the race tied to that element.

Beradai - A bird like PC race associated with Air.

Blanket (CI) - The base amount of Experience Points that you get for attending an event.

Boffer (CI) - A padded weapon, made of taped foam over a PVC or fiberglass core. Used for simulated combat.

Brew (CI) - A non-magical susbstance created from in-game herbs and substances that has special in-game properties such as healing, poison, intoxication, etc.

Brewer (CI) - An brewer is someone who uses the science of brewing to make elixirs with special in-game properties.

Chaos War - This was the horrific war, led by the Faeries and their cohorts, that plunged the world into chaos and death for several centuries. The Chaos War was brought to an end roughly 250 years ago.

Creation Points (CP) (CI) - These are the points used to purchase skills and abilities for your character. To create a character you begin with 40 creation points. You can increase this limit by spending Gargoyle Points and by submitting a character history. Unused creation points are converted into Experience points at the end of character creation.

Denzorali - A dwarf/gnome like PC race associated with Stone.

Empathy - A rare affliction that effects some individuals. Has been known to drive its victims insane due to loss of control over powers such as telepathy and life sense.

Encounter - Any interaction between a PC or PCs and a NPC or NPCs. Whether it is a violent or peaceful encounter, is exclusively up to the people involved in it. This term is usually referencing random, unplanned encounters.

Experience Points (XP) (CI) - During an event you will earn Experience Points that are converted to Creation Points. One Experience Point equals one Creation Point. Roleplaying your character well, defeating a powerful monster and solving difficult riddles are all means of earning Experience Points.

Fortune's Landing - The name of the game. No one is quite sure what it means in reference to game outside of that.

Gargoyle Points (GP) - Players can earn Gargoyle Points by volunteering to help out the game in various ways. Gargoyle points can be spent to purchase Experience Points or to reduce your event fee, among other things.

Guide (CI) - These are the people responsible for running and guiding the story. A guide my be out-of-play or they may play an NPC. Some Guides are general Guides, while others perform specific functions such as being a Rules Guide. Most non-Rules Guides are full-time volunteers and are a part of the Plot Committee.

Herb (CI) - An IG plant that has special medical or magical properties. You must have the herbalism skill to properly harvest the useful bits of the plant.

Human - The most populous PC race. They are associated with Fire.

Illuthian - An elf-like PC race associated with Wood.

In Between Game Action (IBGA) (CI) - FL members can make up to three IBGAs per game month. You can use crafting skills to make money, lore and divination abilities to research information, or other plot (Non RP) related actions. Plot makes the final determination of what effect, if any, a given IBGA has.

In-Play/In-Game (IP/IG) - This term references anything that can affect a character or the story, but not the actual player. The Message Forums that are denoted with (IP) after their names are considered In-Play because they are part of the story-line. Anything posted on these boards can be read by any character and therefore is considered In-Play.

Jenisari - An aquatic PC race associated with Water

Ley Point - A point of intersection for Ley Lines. These areas allow the casting of more powerful magic than a mage can normally manage on his own.

Logistics - The group of volunteers who update characters and handle registration between and at events.

Module - A primarily plot driven, planned encounter. The modules are the really significant or set intensive portions of the story of Fortune's Landing, and may involve everyone in game or only a select group of PCs. For example, one module that we ran was when all of the PCs went to explore an abandoned mine. Almost everything within the mine, from the layout of the tunnels, to the creatures therein was planned before the PCs ever even showed up.

Monstertown (CI) - This is an Out-of-play area where the Plot Committee and Monstertown Manager organize monsters and NPCs for encounters and modules.

Necromancer - A practitioner of necromancy.

Necromancy - A school of magic that specializes in the control of life and death and healing. Highly illegal.

Newbie - A player who is new to Fortune's Landing. Especially, someone who has never played a LARP before.

Non-player Character (NPC) (CI) - Any character or monster that is given a scripted role to act out and exists primarily to further the storyline or provide interaction and amusement for the PCs.

Out-of-Play/Out-of-Game (OOP/OOG) (CI) - This is indicative of an item or activity that is not part of the story/game. For example, a plot member will denote any buildings on the site that are out of play at the beginning of an event. A player wearing a white headband or with both arms crossed over his/her head is considered to be Out-of-Play. A player may also learn something about the storyline that his character would not know, that knowledge would then be considered out of game.

Player Character (PC) - A character who is part of the story, but who has complete freedom to do whatever they want within the confines of the story and the system.

Plot Committee (CI) - The group of full time volunteers who create the story for Fortune's Landing. They perfom a wide variety of tasks at events, from directing modules to playing recurring NPC parts to being just generally useful in keeping the game fun and entertaining.

Phys-rep (CI) - Physical Representation. An object that is used to represent something in game. Boffer weapons are phys-reps for swords, axes, and other weapons. A small silver painted brooch might be a phys-rep for the silver seal of the king.

Production points (PP) (CI) - Items that can be created (weapons, armor, scrolls, potions, etc.) all have an associated production point cost. Production skills allow a character a certain number of Production Points that can be used each day of an event to make items.

Quiver - A "quiver" is any collection of mundane projectiles for a missile weapon (non-thrown). A quiver is considered a single tagged item for all purposes. Quivers must be phys-repped (leather sheath of arrows, shot pouch, etc). Quivers for bows and crossbows cost 3 PP and 1 Bit. Firearm "quivers" cost 3 PP and one Silver Ring. Quivers provide a functionally unlimited number of mundane missiles (may be recovered during normal holds) and are considered to be cared between events. All quivers expire every six months and must be replaced. Quivers may not have special properties; poisoned, enchanted, silver, cold iron, wood, substandard, superior material must be created as individual items.

Rules Guides (CI) - These are volunteers whom anyone can approach with questions about the rules or the system. They usually will know nothing of the story line beyond what their character knows, and typically play the game just like anyone else.

Shen - A lizard man like PC race associated with Metal

Spell Packet - A small "beanbag" or satchet created by wrapping cloth around a scoop of birdseed. These are thrown to represent a combat spell effect. If the packet hits the target the spell takes effect.

Wounding Blows (CI) - An attack tagline that allows a character to inflict extra damage. e.g. "Striking 1 (Peircing Blow)" or "Striking 3 (Mighty Blow)" which would add one or three points of damage, respectively.

Tag-line (CI) - A word or short phrase that is generally used to describe the effect of an attack. For example if you attacked someone with a poisoned dagger, you would call out a "Poison" tagline when you hit your target so that they would know how to react.

Ultra-light (CI) - A weapon or armor designed with lighter than usual materials such a a fiberglass or carbon-rod core.
